Paved Over Prominence Walking Tour

Step into the past with the Paved Over Prominence Walking Tour, a guided exploration of York’s 19th-century Black community and the lives that shaped the city despite being paved over by time and development. Circling William Penn High School, this tour uncovers compelling stories—from York’s first school for Black children and its once-thriving “Black Wall Street,” to Green Book locations, Olympians, veterans, and community builders. The narratives are grounded in historical research connected to those interred at Lebanon Cemetery, a historic African American burial ground, and are presented by dedicated volunteers of the Friends of Lebanon Cemetery.

Special notes: We will meet in the lobby of the Yorktowne Hotel.
