Find out why native plants are important to our ecosystem and how our gardens fit into the scheme of things. Pick up new techniques for incorporating natives into your landscape, and discover some outstanding plants that will make your gardens a haven for wildlife and pollinators.

You have made the commitment to "go native" with your landscape. But how do you begin? Connie and Mike Schmotzer will share how they converted a typical 1/2 acre suburban lot into a landscape with more than 200 species of native plants, rain gardens, a small woodland and meadow gardens. Come away with ideas and a general roadmap for your own gardens. (Participants will be invited to visit Connie and Mike's native yard at a date TBD.)

Come grow with us! In this lively 1.5-hour OLLI horticulture class at Penn State York, you’ll roll up your sleeves and dive into the joys of gardening inside the beautiful campus greenhouse. Through hands-on activities, you'll explore plant propagation—starting seeds (sexual reproduction), taking cuttings (asexual reproduction), transplanting seedlings, and more. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just planting your first seed, you’ll see how fun learning can be when you get your hands in the soil!
